Calcudoku+ 7×7
I had a request for a 7×7 Calcudoku-esque puzzle that uses only + operations, so I thought “why not?”. And here it is.

Samurai 8X puzzle
When I was making Sudoku Xtra 10 I wanted to put in a really big Samurai Sudoku puzzle. In the end because I had a square page area available beneath the instructions I went with a 13-grid one (just as a one-off to see what sort of reaction it got!) but I had More >

Calcudoku 6×6 puzzle
It’s been an age since I’ve posted new puzzles on here directly, mainly because all my puzzle-making effort has been focused on Sudoku Xtra, Sudoku Pro, PuzzleMix and a major book I recently completed.
In any case, there’s no time like the present to fix that so here’s a simple 6×6 Calcudoku. Just place 1 More >

Killer Plus Minus Samurai puzzle
If you’re a Sudoku Xtra reader you’ll have seen these in their regular 9×9 form in both issues 5 and 6, but this is the first time I’ve made a Samurai one, and the first time I’ve posted one here I think.
This is essentially a regular Killer Sudoku puzzle, except that More >

Killer Sudoku Pro 6×6 Samurai puzzle
It’s been quiet here recently – much of my effort has been going on my UK General Election site, How To Vote, although Sudoku Xtra 6 was out on Saturday too. Anyway, there are still 10 days to go to the election but after that I’ll get some time back!
However I thought I should More >

Samurai 3-grid Calcudoku 6×6 puzzle
I’ve been posting a few new varieties of Sudoku puzzle in the daily puzzle section of PuzzleMix (i.e. the subscription section, which costs less than £1 a month for well over 1,000 puzzles a year). These aren’t especially unusual variations, but I’ve done a few different mixes (e.g. Sudoku-X 12×12 and More >

Samurai Star XXXXX puzzle
I haven’t posted a puzzle for a week (it’s been a busy week, mind!) so it’s time to make up for that, just in time for the weekend.
In this puzzle the aim is pretty simple: place 1 to 9 in each set of 9 squares starting and ending with a bold line, More >

Samurai-2 Odd Pair Sudoku puzzle
One of the brand new puzzles in Sudoku Xtra issue 4 is Odd-Pair Sudoku, which I wrote about last week here on my puzzle blog. As well as some regular 9×9 puzzles I also included a large 5-grid Odd-Pair Samurai puzzle, and to illustrate how the puzzle worked I included a More >

Samurai Killer Calcudoku puzzle
I haven’t posted much here recently because I’ve been spending my time on Sudoku Xtra, so here’s a large puzzle to fill the void a bit.
This is a five-grid Samurai Killer Calcudoku:
Place 1 to 9 into each row, column and 3×3 box of the five underlying 9×9 Sudoku grids
Place numbers into the Calcudoku dashed-line More >

Well that was a bit of a marathon but I’ve finally completed it. When I first started it and saw the large number of givens I mistakenly thought it might be easy!! In the event it’s taken me quite some time, but hugely enjoyable

I saved that puzzle for dessert!
That was muy mucho fun! It took some time but considering that you are doing 8 9×9 CalcuDokus (sans 3×3 regions) it was a fun wrestle.
My suggestion would be to make it clearer where each row/column ends. There were a couple of times I almost flubbed it thinking an overlapping region couldn’t have a number but checking again I saw that it was 1 square out of range.

I agree. This is something I used to do (mark the row/column boundaries), but when I re-wrote my PDF creation code for a new library I didn’t put that back in – however I should. It is particularly confusing if you switch from Samurai Star to ‘regular’ Samurai puzzles!
